Well my friends, it appears that the winter is drawing nearer and nearer. The pumpkins are, for the most part, out of sight (except for those of us that are lucky enough to have some pumpkin seeds left), and little drifts of snow are beginning to be seen here and there. It seems like any day now, we’ll get a big dumping of snow and winter will officially begin. I don’t know about you, but I’m mostly excited for Christmas. I’ve been making some insane Xmas playlists. I’ve also started to think about my top albums of 2008, of which I will speak about at a date closer to new years. For now, here is a list of my top five songs of the week:

1. Army Navy – My Thin Sides

I’m a little torn on whether I really love this band or I will get sick of them soon. But right now I’m loving this song and a few others off of this debut self titled album by Army Navy. You can also hear this band in the new(ish) movie, Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. They are worth checking out, to say the least.

2.1 Little Joy – Play The Part

2.2 Little Joy – No Ones Better Sake

I was having trouble choosing just one song so I gave you my two faves. I just got this album and I am enjoying it quite a bit. Little Joy is comprised of the Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti, Los Hermanos guitarist/singer Rodrigo Amarante and multi-instrumentalist Binki Shapiro. The music doesn’t sound anything like the strokes, but singer Rodrigo Amante could probably pass for a less raspy Julian.

3. Dustin O’Halloran – Opus 17

I was introduced to him by one of my fellow bloggers. Little did I know I had heard him before as a part of the Marie Antoinette soundtrack. Mediocre movie…great soundtrack. O’halloran creates some really beautiful and emotional piano ballads. I’m still not as familiar with his music as I’d like to be, but what I’ve heard so far is great. Take a look at this amazing video for his “Opus 23″:

4. Brazilian Girls – St. Petersburg

I have been listening to this album to go to bed for the past week. I never really make it too far passed this song. But I love it and I hope you will too. I saw these guys perform at the Osheaga Festival in Montreal a few years ago and wow what a weird performance. But I kinda like them a lot.

5. Kelsey Wild – Let Me Go

This is someone to watch out for. I first heard of her through the Aimee Mann “Freeway” Video Contest. She was actually a runner up in that contest. She is from Chicago, Illinois, is 18 years old, and is extremely talented. I think she could be pretty big in the near future, so keep a lookout.

Enjoy the end of fall and the begining of winter. Don’t worry, it won’t be that bad!

Until next week…
