A few months ago we were contacted by the creators of the Canadian television program, The Border. One of their characters, Hieronymous Slade, is a tech-wiz extraordinaire, with a fondness for hipster-geek
culture, and they wanted to know if they could obtain some YBP t-shirts for this character to wear on their program. How nice of them to think of us! Of course, we were flattered, and so we happily agreed. So far, Slade, played by Jonas Chernick, has appeared rocking Hayden, and Broken Social Scene (two Canadian bands). Stay tuned for more episodes, where Slade will be seen wearing other YBP tees! The Border airs Monday nights at 9:00 EST and 9:30 NT on CBC. The next episode which will feature Slade wearing another YBP tee will be episode 9, on November 24th. Thanks to nice folks at CBC for approaching us, and for helping to make this happen.

You can watch a full episode here.

And below are some shots of Slade, representin’ in true YBP style.

I first discovered the Yellow Bird Project tees about a year and a half ago. I bookmarked the site on my toolbar and vowed to make a purchase with my next paycheck.  Fast-forward a year- I’d forgotten about the site and my resolution until I rediscovered the bookmarked page.  By this time a few more tees were available. I knew if I didn’t buy a tee at that moment I’d keep putting it off.  It’s not hard to justify the purchase, since the charity gets 100% of the profit. The more I thought about the more convinced I was of the cause. I bought two: The Broken Social Scene tee and The National.  I also bought a Rilo Kiley tee for my best friends birthday (they make perfect gifts)!

When I wear my shirt I feel like I’m making more than just a fashion statement- I feel I’m contributing and bringing awareness to a good cause.  I wear my shirts with pride and in doing so have initiated some pretty rad conversations with people.

Thank you Yellow Bird Project!

This is Greg from the The Middle Distance Runner. I will be blogging at least once a week for my good friends at the Yellow Bird Project from now until the end of time. These weekly blogs will be mostly about musical things, such as new albums by our favourite artists, news about up and coming musicians that deserve mention, updates from our Yellow Bird contributors, and other nonsense that pops into my head. So check in often, because every week there will be new musically related stuff for you.

To mark the occasion of my very first Yellow Bird blog, I will start with some news. Yes it is true, the new Coldplay album, which is entitled Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends, has leaked onto the internet. This is not to encourage you to download it. It’s just kind of a big deal. I haven’t heard it yet, only a few samples. So far what i have heard is just okay. Hopefully when i hear the full album in all it’s glory I will have more words for it.

For now, here is a sample:

Violet Hill

And check out this nifty little ad that they made for itunes. Pretty colours!

Now go pre-order yourself a copy.

And speaking of leaks…

Broken Social Scene co-founder Brendan Canning, who’s solo album Something for All of Us… has also leaked. He, however, has decided to nip the problem in the butt. He’s released a digital version of the album that can be downloaded right now!

Here’s a sample from the new album:

Hit The Wall

Canning will also be playing a few festival shows, including a stop in my hometown, at the Montreal Osheaga Festival, along with his BSS buddies this summer. Here are the dates:

06-15 Manchester, TN - Bonnaroo
06-27 Calgary, Alberta - Sled Island
07-04 Detroit, MI - Comerica Cityfest
07-19 New York, NY - Siren Music Festival
07-20 Whistler, British Columbia - Whistler Music Festival
08-02 Chicago, IL - Lollapalooza
08-04 Montreal, Quebec - Osheaga Music and Arts Festival
08-24 San Francisco, CA - Outside Lands Festival

Happy Listening!

Just when we thought YBP needed more Canadian musicians, we went and we found 19 more. We are proud to announce our latest design, by the indie rock darlings Broken Social Scene. This t-shirt, designed by their drummer Justin Peroff, is being sold to raise money and awareness for Lake Ontario Waterkeeper.

This t-shirt is a two tone print, delicately silk screened by hand on a tri-blend indigo 50/25/25 track t-shirt. 50% Polyester + 25% Cotton + 25% Rayon = 100% comfort!

As always, this tee is available in all men and women sizes. To see photos of the front and back of the t-shirt, click on their artist page. You can represent this Canadian band and charity anywhere in the world, as we ship world wide.

Lake Ontario Waterkeeper is an environmental justice organization working to win back the right to safely swim, drink, and fish in every waterway. Lately they have been undertaking a groundbreaking appeal of approvals for a tire-burning plan at a cement kiln on Lake Ontario. They are also the lead investigator in the prosecution of Michigan-based DTE Energy for mercury pollution at its coal-fired power plants. This is the first ever private prosecution of an American company polluting in Canadian waters. More information is available here.

This organization has also recently released ‘At the Barricades: Volume 1’, a music compilation produced in support of Lake Ontario Waterkeeper. It features a new exclusive track from Broken Social Scene called “Until It’s Dead”, as well as a new Stars remix of the “1st 5 times”. Many other artists who are committed to the fight for clean water also appear on this album.

This collaboration was made possible by Chris Brown, who was able to unite the Yellow Bird Project with Broken Social Scene and Lake Ontario Waterkeeper.

*** SPECIAL OFFER: FREE CD!!! ***

Now courtesy of Lake Ontario Waterkeeper, when you order two Broken Social Scene t-shirts (of any size) you will receive a free copy of the “At the Barricades” CD. We will mail it to you free with no additional shipping cost incurred, only while supplied last!
