It all started on a fateful rainy day in Montreal. It was the summer of 2006, and YBP had just launched itself at the Osheaga Music Festival in Montreal. We were there to sell t-shirts, and to unleash YBP onto the people of our home town, but we were also there two support two of our YBP contributors who were performing that weekend - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and Joseph Arthur. In the background, we heard a sound that was all too familiar; the genius indie folk ballads of The Magic Numbers. At the time they already had huge success and big respect in the UK, but they were only just beginning to pave their way into North America with a cross country tour in support of The Flaming Lips.

After their set, sibling pair Romeo (Guitar, Lead Vocals) & Michele (Bass) Stodart decided to take a walk around Park Jean Drapeau, to meet the people and enjoy a cheeky beverage. We lured them into our booth, explained our concept, and told them that we would love for them to be be a part of our  project as well. Well, Romeo bought three t-shirts - can you guess which ones..? They then told us that they would definitely be in touch. Well, here we are now presenting to you this amazing design, created by their brother, Mark Stodart, who is a very talented visual artist. Their design is printed onto a black organic cotton American Apparel tee, with silver ink. It’s available in all sizes (men & women).

A special thanks goes out to Michele, for helping us get this together. The Magic Numbers have chosen to donate all of the profits from the sale of this t-shirt to the AIDS Society - a cause which Michele explained is really important to the band.

The banner on the front page of our website was drawn for us by Andy J. Miller. To see it properly - in full size - click here.

Oh, and P.S. If you’re interested in knowing which YBP shirts Romeo bought from our booth, the answer is: King Creosote, Devendra Banhart, and Stars.

We talked recently about a soundtrack collaboration with Lee and Tyler Sargent from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and Colin Greenwood from Radiohead, for the upcoming film ‘Woodpecker’. As reported on Pitchfork, two of these songs are now available for listen! Here they are:

MP3>> James Lavino [ft. Colin Greenwood, Lee Sargent, and Tyler Sargent]: “How to Look at a Bird”

MP3>> James Lavino [ft. Colin Greenwood, Lee Sargent, and Tyler Sargent]: “The Thing With Feathers”

If you’re anything like us, you’ve been sitting around, waiting impatiently, wondering when the next Clap Your Hands Say Yeah record is coming out. Why haven’t they been on tour? Where have they been? Well, CYHSY are now on their way to Hollywood. Rather, they’re already there. Not only have they composed the score for a new Tom Hanks/John Malkovich picture, The Great Buck Howard, a couple of them have also been writing film scores with Radiohead. To be more specific, Tyler and Lee collaborated with Colin Greenwood on a movie score for the film Woodpecker. Can someone send us Tom Hanks’ address so that we can send him a freakin’ t-shirt!??
