    About Freelance Whales T-Shirt

This t-shirt was designed by drummer/percussionist Jacob Hyman and his girlfriend Meredith Slater, which illustrates the band's youthful imagination and love for the supernatural. Their debut album tells a simple, pre-adolescent love story: a young male falls in love with the spectral young femme who haunts his childhood home. He chases her in his dreams but finds her to be mostly elusive. He imagines her alive, and wonders if someday he’ll take on her responsibilities of ghosting, or if maybe he’ll join her, elsewhere. We may all see different things in this t-shirt design - some may discover a poor monster that simply fell sick to her stomach - but none of us can deny that there’s a little bit of magic printed here.

    About The Band

Freelance Whales is an indie rock band from New York City. Judah Dadone, Doris Cellar, Chuck Criss, Jacob Hyman, and Kevin Read came together in 2008 to form Freelance Whales after connecting through Craigslist and friends of friends. The band began to gain traction in October 2009 as they honed their sound on subway platforms around New York City. The band's debut album, Weathervanes, was largely composed by frontman Judah Dadone, the lyrics based on a combination of childhood memories and dream journaling. NPR’s listeners voted Weathervanes into the number 63 spot on the top 100 albums of 2010. Freelance Whales has shown remarkable philanthropic spirit by donating a track to a PSA for the David Cornfield Melanoma Fund, releasing The Benefit for Japan EP to aid victims of the earthquakes, and designing this t-shirt to benefit people with complex illness.

    About The Cause

All of the profits from the sale of this t-shirt will benefit MarbleRoad, which is a Washington, DC based non-profit (DC is considered a "home away from home" for many of the Freelance Whales) organization offering financial assistance and support services for people with complex illness. A complex illness can be persistent and substantially disabling or life threatening, and requires treatments and services across a variety of domains of care to ensure the best possible outcomes for each unique patient. MarbleRoad focuses on rare or undiagnosed diseases and the needs of community health center patients who seek specialty care services not offered by their primary care providers.
