About The Leisure Society T-Shirt

My idea was to illustrate Nick's lyric 'Although we all are lost, our progress has been mapped'. The line has always meant a lot to me, because like a lot of musicians, I have little more to cling to than the records I've made. That's how I like things to be honest. Our movements may be erratic, ill-conceived and rife with mis-steps, but the music we're making along the way gives it all some meaning. Joseph Heller called modern life 'Chaos, masquerading as order', I think the artist's life is the opposite.

Like all Leisure Society projects, this design is the result of no small amount of doubt, loathing and obsession. I drew about 100 different images to convey the idea, tore out some hair, drank some booze, drew some more then gave up. I couldn't do anything that fitted The Leisure Society mould. Then I called our long-time collaborator Owen Davey who was able to express precisely what I was after, as he always does, perfectly.

So buy this T-Shirt and you have a Nick Hemming sentiment, a Christian Hardy failure and an Owen Davey original all in one garment. Bargain.
